Open Letter to Princess Cruises Management
To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing this letter on behalf of many crew members who share a growing concern regarding the quality of food provided to the crew both normal crew and officers. While we take great pride in our work and remain committed to delivering exceptional service to our guests every single day, it has become increasingly difficult to maintain morale, energy, and overall well-being under the current conditions of our dining provisions.
Despite our diverse workforce, the food available to crew members is consistently limited to low-quality variations of Filipino, Indian, and Italian dishes. Unfortunately, these meals are often poorly prepared, lacking seasoning, freshness, or basic nutritional balance. Many dishes are repetitive, bland, and at times simply not appetizing. For employees who work seven days a week—often 12 to 14 hours per day, sometimes fulfilling the responsibilities of several positions—proper, nourishing meals are not a luxury; they are a necessity.
Compounding this problem is the strict policy that prevents crew from bringing food onboard after being ashore. While we understand the importance of biosecurity and safety regulations, this restriction leaves us with no alternative when the meals provided are consistently unsatisfactory. As a result, many crew members are forced to spend a significant portion of their hard-earned salary on snacks and packaged foods from the crew shop, simply because these are the only items they can reliably consume. This is neither healthy nor sustainable.
The company demands dedication, discipline, and high performance from all of us—and we willingly give that. However, it is only fair to expect that the organization meets our basic needs in return. Nutritious, properly prepared meals are fundamental to ensuring we remain healthy, focused, and motivated to deliver the exceptional service Princess Cruises is known for.
We respectfully ask management to review the current standards of food quality in the mess and take meaningful steps to improve the variety, flavor, nutritional value, and overall preparation of our meals. Investing in better food for crew is not only a matter of fairness and respect—it is also an investment in the well-being and productivity of the very people who keep the ship running smoothly every day.
We sincerely hope that this matter can be addressed promptly and effectively. Thank you for taking the time to listen to the concerns of the crew and for your commitment to fostering a healthy, dignified, and supportive working environment.
Respectfully,
A Concerned Crew Member
