A friend send me a video titled “Cruise ships will never replace us with robots,” and it really caught my attention. It reminded me of the days when four to six of us would sit together rolling silverware for the Lido buffet, a task most of us hated.
But the video showed something interesting: a silverware-rolling robot, apparently already being used on MSC Cruises ships based on the crew nametags.
And honestly, the machine looks pretty impressive. It seems they’ve found a way to replace several crew members for this repetitive task.
So, will robots replace cruise ship crew?
Personally, I don’t think so at least not anytime soon. The jobs crew members do go far beyond what machines can handle, Crew members do many tasks and this is just one of many.
